Miles Davis – Flamenco Sketches
More off the ‘Kind Of Blue’ sessions. Arguably the finest single session in the history of jazz. This is one of my favorite song of any genre.

go look up “modal jazz” on wikipedia, or even what a mode is. shouldnt be hard to find
well I know but what does that mean? What is a mode? How is it different from a chord progression?
@HannahXIV ya its modal so it uses modes instead of chord progression
I’m told that this is Modal as opposed to Tonal which means it centers around a tone instead of a key or something? I dunno. can someone explain this to me?
@fabianidhesona That’s Coltrane.
One of the Greatest Masterpieces to ever grace my ears.Miles is truly a Legend and inspiration to any musician anywhere
Coltrane plays the first solo
this song makes me think about sitting on my recliner, in the dark, with a glass of red. it so happens to be the case, usually. when i listen to this it’s not because i felt the need to listen to a jazz ballad, it’s because i felt the need to listen to “sketches”. it makes me believe that i can grasp those things in life that seem so far, beyond my reach.
who plays the first saxophone solo, Coltrane or Cannoball?
The basic idea for the piano line on “Flamenco Sketches” comes from “Peace Piece” by Bill Evans on “Everybody Digs..

@MRLOVINGOOD my dear friend, this music is close to every living being regardless of faith, color or gender…we’re all one and the same, made up of the same essence. in the end, we all want to love and to be loved.
I agree with the second comment of this page. This music is very close to being with GOD AND JESUS,with the use of the way back machine(the memory of yesterday) and how music was played of decades ago with masters of the likes of Coltrane,Miles,Cannoball, and Evans ,They were out of this world, super good stuff. That was a great time listening to these duds. Thanks to YOUTUBE AND PEOPLE WHO GIVE OF THEIR TIME AND MUSIC JUST FOR THE WORLD OF MUSIC LOVERS.
this is perfection.
Evans, Adderley, Coltrane, and Davis you have taken me to places all the money in the world, a bottle of wine, and one hell of an imagination could never take me. I thank you from the depth of my heart which you have polished thoroughly with your beautiful sounds.
Absolutely one of Miles Davis’ best songs ever recorded. Great album.
I put this song as one of the most beautiful pieces of music recorded in history. ALthough many comments single out each performer for its success, as do I, with Evans and Cannonball my favs, it is the whole composition from start to finish that attacks the senses to create a simultaneous heartfelt and cerebral orgasm.

What a beautiful ambience to this recording, gentle reverb, the horns’ tones are warm, soft distant piano…
Can’t forget the bass player. Only one or two subtle notes at a time with Bill Evans and some light brushwork from the drummer providing a nice foundation. Jimmy Cobb never had the recognition he deserved as a drummer having to follow Philly Joe Jones into the group.
Evans holds it all together. What a beautiful piano player. Give me a ballad any day.
I think Adderley fits much better than Coltrane in this song.
He blows so smooth & emotionally.
Easily one of the best songs ever put to tape.
Very rarely do you get the talent of Davis, Coltrane, and Evans together in a room.
In the year 2059 this will still be considered a timeless masterpiece.
magnificent…absolutely beautiful..
